I agree. A few years ago when I worked at the dealership, a guy came in 
with an 83 GTI (factory serviced, bone stock) that had a bad tranny. 
Without letting a tech check it, he went and bought a new GTI. the 
salesman offered him $100 to bring it to the junkyard. that was his 
trade in value! I offered him $100 cash for it right there, he accepted. 
After work we noticed it had 3rd & 4th where 1st & 2nd were, 3rd & 4th 
where 3rd & 4th were, and 3rd & 4th where 5th & 6th(?) were.  Peeking 
under the car, one of the linkage parts was broken. $1.75 later, I was 
enjoying a new ride. I love a good steal!
