Steering column shakes

i just got back from one of the longest road trips ever! my 84 scirocco
never missed a beat. i did however experience something odd. my steering
wheel vibrates quite badly at 105kmph and 115kmph and anything over
125kmph. i don't think it's my tires/ rims as they are new and were
balanced. could this be an alignment problem? bad motor mount? what? i
have no clue where to start to look.
