RE: Power Sunroof?

Having just pried the inside of my Scirocco apart JUST LAST
NIGHT, I've found that my 8v 1984 has these weird metal braces that come
down from the roof, under the headliner, around where the crank goes,
and prevents an Audi5k sunroof motor from fitting in there. Now, the
brackets that are in the way look useless, as they're open on the side
facing the outside of the car, and have nothing attached to them, nor do
they appear to be supporting the roof in any appreciable way.
Also, there are no mounting holes to put the motor in, but if
you can figure out where to drill shallow holes, it WILL fit, and the
gear from the power Audi motor DOES fit into the Scirocco gear. Good
luck. I'm debating on cutting mine or not. :)
