Re: 5th Gear Conversion

Ben,
I have done the conversion on a 16v Jetta GLI and did not like it. The
space between fourth and fifth was too much....for state highway driving
fourth was too low and fifth too high. Now this was just my opinion. I
presently drive 60 miles each way to work. I now have a 91 GLI 2.0
16v. I switched the transmission out for a regular Jetta/Golf
transmission! Perfect for highway driving yet it still pulss well
through all the gears. And the best part is that all the gears are
correctly spacd apart. I also did this conversion for someone with an
87 16v scirocco and he loved it. Although the rocco only has a 1.8 it
also pulls real well through the gears...if you can afford it I would go
for a used trans! Also when you do the trans or the conversion, change
over to synthetic gear oil.....wow what a difference!!!
