Arno, the Passat 1.9 is a turbo direct injection diesel engine, and even
though it develops only 95hp, it develops a whopping 150 lb/ft of
torque!  (that's knocking on VR6's door!)  I have driven one, and I can
tell you that they don't knock (the turbo takes care of most of that),
they don't stink, and don't smoke (due to an up to 50% EGR).  But they
do move!  I can't imagine how cool the TDI Jetta with the same engine
would do, but I bet you could "smoke" a few cars and surprise the hell
out of their drivers.  I love torque!
