The think about DOT 5 is its more prone to absorb moisture from the air.
Depending on where you live, it may or may not be a problem. So that
pretty much makes a mechanics choice to use or not to use. 

I've also heard alot of people using it without problems, so that says
something for it too. 

For my money, Castrol GTLMA works great for me. In my braking system, I
have yet to fade the Ferodo pads on vented 9.4" rotors on the steepest of
downhill braking. It works for me. It works great on the autox course for
me also, so, that's my testimonial. 

Then again, I make it a point to flush out my old fluid once a year where
as alot of folks would just top off the system every few years. Im sure
that probably has something to do with it as well.
