Cam stuff and confusion

Hi all...first post here since I bought my 1984 Wolfsburg Scirocco last
week...$400 CDN btw..good shape. It was traded at a local dealer for a new
Passat. Anyway....I wanna cam it. I have a hydraulic cam from a 1986
Jetta..what exactly is the difference between the hydraulic and solid cams.
Other than the obvious lifters thing. I have a Crane 280/428 in my GLI, but
don't really wanna pull that out in swap for a stock one back in. I've heard
the 1.6 cam can give some extra "oomph" to a 1.8. I know it is already more
aggressive. What could I expect form adding one? Will the hydraulic cam work
in my solid head?? Is it worth the effort to install a 1.6 cam? Is the 1.7
cam a better cam than the 1.6 for "performance" upgrade on the 1.8? Anyone
with any insight they can offer, I would appreciate it immensely. I have
already upped the exhaust to 2" and will be doing the dual mani soon, the
cam install is something I can do on a lazy weekend. And lastly...anyone
have one for very few bones??

    Thanks guys...and gals
