Could be the control pressure regulator. This was a known problem in the
past. Due to the location of the control pressure regulator(mounted to the
side of the block(8v)), when the engine gets hot the regulator soaks up the
heat from the block. When the unit gets hot it will close down the fuel
passage thus lowering fuel pressure and thus giving better fuel economy.
This is how it's suppose to work. In the 1 or 2 hours that it sits(no air
flow), especially during the summer time, the regulator will go through a
heatsoak and shut down even more. If it goes too far out of whack, it may
close down too far in a hot condition and thus make it hard to start. In
cold weather I bet it's not too bad to restart. Check out the regulator per
Mr. Bentley.

Performance Tip: If you read between the lines, you may have realized as the
engine gets hot you will lose some performance due to lowering of fuel
pressure. I don't know by how much but in my book every little bit counts.
What I've done is fabricate a sheetmetal bracket that stand my pressure
regulator off the block at a 90 degree angle. You will need 2 more bolts and
nuts to make this work. This now puts the unit out in the air and not up
against the block(no heat soak). I've noticed in hot conditions the engine
does start quicker with less cranking. I'm not concerned about fuel economy
as much a HP. I've run this setup for over 10 years.
