I had the same problem. Since you can pop the lock from inside, this is an
easy (and free) fix. Undo the 2 phillips head screws that hold the latch
in. The latch is then attached to the lock cylinder by a metal linkage
that is shaped like a twisted "S". Unhook the latch from the linkage, and
the linkage from the lock cylinder, but PAY ATTENTION to how how the link
is oriented. Mark the top forward end with a magic marker or something.
This is the voice of experience here.

Now take that little S-shaped link and squeeze it in your vise so that it
is 1/8 to 1/4 inch shorter than original. Reinstall, should work fine.

There's a hydraulic arm that holds your door open? Are you sure you don't
have a Delorean?
