I jumped the two wires and it turned on my back lights. So the
 switch is dead.

Q: Could it be my tranny? What if it is in the inside that it
 decided not to work?

A: not likely

Q: Is a backup switch expensive? (it's sure is easy to replace!)

A: About $40.00 no more than that

Thanks for all your help guys.
