You NEED a battery back up in case the thief finds and disconnects your
power source, or yanks the cable right at the main battery up front. With
a back up, the siren will continue to sound, and the starter kill will
continue to be operational. Believe me, you'll be sorry if you get your
car stolen because it wasn't properly protected....been there, looked at
an empty parking spot for a very long 5 minutes....

I don't know much about hood locks, but seeing as you're all
law-abiding enthusiasts I'll let you all in on another scirocco theft
secret: prior to breaking a window or smashing a door lock, a thief can
open your hood and disconnect main power at the battery, thus disabling
the alarm. All you gotta do is rip out the front grill and pull the hood
release cable. Bingo, now you can look at the alarm install in
peace, without worrying about sirens. How to counter this? Installing a
pin switch on the hood will set the alarm off if/when the hood is raised.
Can anybody think of a better way?
