Re:

Too much toe in. On my car, "5 minutes" of rod rotation equals roughly
1/16" change, as measured on an alignment rack. We have proven this to be
inaccurate on Kevin's Scirocco, but for scope of change it can be useful.
So, if 1/4 turn of the rod equals 15 minutes/3/16", 1/2 turn equals 30
minutes/6/16", you get the picture. Do you know how to measure toe? It is
easy, if you have a second person to help. Put a dot on the back of the
front tires, low enough that a tape measure can be held from dot to dot
without hitting the exhaust. I use chalk, preferably a colored chalk (I
like pink). On the end of the tape measure, I have the helper push the
"hook" into the chalk to make a black line in the chalk. On the other end,
I draw a line with blue ink on the pink chalk (easy to see), measure. Roll
car forward, so the tape can be held across the tires without hitting
stuff, remeasure. The hook end person has a nice black line to push the
hook into, and I know what it was before. Measure again, adjust as
necessary. Of course, this is not 100% accurate, but is pretty darned
good. I did my last alignment at home, worked great. It can definetly
tell you if you are toed in a lot, and help you get it to zero toe/a bit
out. It is possible that your toe is fine (doubtful, as you just replaced
the end), and the outsides are getting chewed up from aggressive driving.
Hope this helps!
