Yea, it's weird. They screwed around and showed us about every mod for
that Jetta GLX (it's ugly) and that 914 (it needs help), so it's not
like they're incompetent. It seems like was kind of like: "Well guys,
we haven't had time to mess with the Scirocco for this issue, but we
gotta do something...hey, here's a couple hundred bucks, go out and get
some of those Nology wires and put 'em on and write a few paragraphs
about it." I'm just one of those guys that would like to see them dyno
the car as is...then with new plugs, cap, rotor, and coil. Then with a
hotter coil, like an Accel or MSD. Then with 8mm wires. Then with the
coil and 8mm wires. Then with Nology wires, amp and plugs. Then show
which mods provided the best dollar per horsepower or torque gain, so
that I don't have to waste my money on snake oil mods! How's about this
for a project article: FIXING a flex joint instead of laying down the
gold bars and just buying a new cat/downpipe! Now THERE'S a project!
How about a hydraulic valve lifter replacement article, as most newly
purchased Sciroccos usually need them replaced anyway. Better yet, show
us how to tell the difference between good and bad hydraulic lifters so
we don't have to buy the whole set! I don't know, but I don't think
they even mentioned that when you buy a 16 valve to put on a new timing
belt, no matter what the previous owner tells you, so CHANGE THE TIMING
BELT! We expect these yahoos at EC to do what we cannot do: Test
several and various products and mods on our cars, and report in good
faith accurate, helpful advice on how to best spend our hard-earned
performance dollars. With project Scirocco, it's time they delivered.
