Carbs were available in Europe in many VW 'entry' models
throughout the eighties. Of course, while we in North America
don't consider the Scirocco an 'entry level' model and were
lucky enough to be sent the top models with attractive price
tags, europeans had a choice of many engines for their roccos.
For example in 1984 the 'entry' level Scirocco had a 1.6l 85bhp
carb while a 1.8l 90bhp carb and a 112 bhp 1.8l FI engine were
offered.

Even a 1.6l carb was offered in the 1990 Scirocco GT II, 2 years
after the last model year Scirocco in NOrth America!!!
