connecticut DMV

any of you guys ever tried to get plates for a "salvage" title vehicle
with Connecticut?  i'm running into quite a bureaucracy.  the 800# for
CT DMV says that I need to have the "major" work done by, and accounted
for via receipt from, a registered body/repair shop.  the phone rep i
spoke with identified "major" work loosely - like off the top of her
head.

others have said that all i need are the part receipts and VINs on the
vehicles that the parts came from.

the trick is that you need to tow it there, and if it fails, tow it back
$$$$$$$$$! :(  So i'd like to get it right.

any thoughts?
