Scirocco VR6

Regarding all who did not get the chance to make Waterfest and see the
VR6 Scirocco, here are my impressions: The car had the engine in and
had been running about two weeks before the show, and he had driven it
from Ohio, so it seems that so far, it's been reliable. Talking to the
owner, we agreed that the car was about a year from being finished
(body, interior, etc.). As far as Jim's assessment from Rapid, I tend
to agree with his conclusion, even if not his delivery of it. This was
not what you would call a "clean" swap. Shock towers and unibody had to
be cut into on a large scale, (you'd have to pull the motor to change a
timing belt), the motor mounts were such that I could grab an intake
runner and shake the motor, the driveshafts were 2" lower on the inside
than the outside, (I doubt this will hold up for very long), and he had
already dented the hood due to flexion of the trussbar and motor banging
on the underside. Yes, he got the motor in, it runs, and he drove it
there, for which I commend him. However, don't expect to see it in EC
for a while. When and if he totally finishes the car, with work
involved in the project and the added weight of the motor, he should end
up with permanently scarred knuckles and a primo Corrado. The VR6's
weight in the Scirocco's light chassis make the car unmanageable,
probably changing a 70/30 weight distribution to a 85/15. Guys, the 2.0
or 2.1 and G60 are the ways to go.
