EC's Scirocco 16v project

Hi Listmembers,

I was reading the first installment of the 16v project (EC, April 97) and it
mentions that the 86 16v had rear-ended another vehicle because "the left
front brake line blew".

This interests me because I have been having trouble with the brakes on my 82
Rocco.  In fact, I wrote recently that my pedal was low even though I had
replaced every component in the system (except brake lines).  I think that
the brakes are a little spongy as well, however they do not pump-up.  

So now I am worried that the flex portion of the brake lines are weak and
that is the cause of my problem.  Does anybody have an opinion?
