Hey guy.... This problem sounds ALOT like when I got water in my gas
somehow.  On my '85 Jetta It ruined the transfer pump 
clogged the fuel filter, ruined the main fuel pump
ruined the injectors AND lightened my wallet by about $600
'cause I could not fix it myself at the time.
HOPEFULLY this is not your problem. Mine started like this and got worse 
and worse.

This sounds like a fuel pressure problem
