Heh, that's kids stuff, I already did done that. : )
The idle isn't effected like if it were a vaccumme leak. it behaves
entirely different but still, has some of the same properties of a simple
vaccumme leak. Kinda hard to describe in print.

I've been checking around for the FI gauge. I just need to borrow one, I
don't wanna buy one. No luck.

Wanna hear the latest happenings? Sure you do. Well, I got called back
today for a follow up interview. (always a good sign.) Anyways, on my way
out I pulled into a gas station to get gas and as I left, I saw what I
thought was steam come from under the driver side of the hood. Hmm, so I
cut the ignition and coast into a parking spot to investigate.

Pop the hood and what do I see? (And smell) Fuel is all over the tranny
and is even squirting up in the air like a 2 week old newborn! Cripes!!!

So somehow I blew both the fuel lines from the fuel warm up regulator to
the fuel distributor. BOTH OF THEM! How the heck can that happen. Steel
braided lines. HOW!
After looking closely, it would seem that one line (the one that has the
180 hook end that plugs into the fuel distributor.) has blown the inside
rubber material out through the steel braided line. Like a cheese press
or something. Wierd. I thought it was maybe just old fuel line in
combination with some things I've heard about the new fuels being sold
making the rubber almost liquified. Made sense to me at the moment.

So after sitting there for 2 1/2 hours Julie finally get to me and we jet
over to the local dealer. (EWWWW!!) I tell them what I need and
naturally, they will need to special order them. One hose is $40 and the
other is only $60. F-U!

I called "Vee Parts" ( 23 miles away, near my house) and they have one
hose in stock ($30 gulp) and I figure since its the one in worse shape,
ill try and get there before they close and then try and limp home on one
good hose and one hastily clamped hose.
Naturally its the peak of rush hour traffic and I ONLY got an hour to get
there. Somehow I made it in time and then went all the way back to my car
for the repair.

So quick like I swap out the lines and hop in to start the car.....
battery is dead. (Must of been the 2-1/2 hours listening to the radio and
using the car phone..) Naturally I don't have my jumper cables with me
so, I have Julie push start me with her GLi.

Heres a little word of wisdumb that I lurned tonight. If you have a Jetta
GLi that is lowered. And you have a Scirocco that is lowered AND had Euro
bumpers. DO-NOT, I repeat, DO-NOT try and push start the Scirocco with
the Jetta! You will bust the right turn signal lense if you do. The
little tow ring lines up perfectly. So, needless to say, Julie was not
happy about that. (Not to mention I made her traipse all over SD. that's
another story.)

So she pushes me, kinda and I pop the clutch and I see more smoke from
under the hood. I stop, get out and look and its smoking from the fuel
lines. WTF? I grab the new fuel line and it burns my finger with
authority! The battery + was up against the fuel distributor and that is
the reason the fuel lines failed.

So I swapped the batteries between cars and started the Scirocco, put the
original battery in and drove home.

Now, something happened in the engine bay and im getting a flashing
coolant light. I look at my VDO water temp gauge and it says 190. So I
ignore it.

Also, As soon as I get on the freeway, I feel this burning sensation on
both my hands. Gee I wonder what it could of been, battery acid or
something maybe?? Sure enough. That was fun for 23 miles. The while time
I know im leaking fuel and in the "Im a total failure" department in my
head, im expecting to see fire from under the car any minute.

Julie followed me home, it was dark and determining her from other
traffic was easy. (She has a single white turn signal. Freshly modified!)
She said she smelled gas the while way home. Oh-Duh!

Well, Im home now. Nothing burned, other than my hands. Im not going
anywhere anytime soon.

Anybody want a Scirocco?? Cheap. Get outta here!!!
