16v Crankcase Ventilation Problem?!!!!?

A few days ago this high school kid with a 89ish 318bmw sees me in my
scirocco and tells me that he likes my car. He also asks,"Is it fast?" I was
honest and said, "it is fast enough, but will someday be much faster!!!!!"
So, yesterday he gets behind me at a light and I decide I will show him
what I've got. I flew through first and second and then let off a little in
third when POOF----a huge clowd of very light smoke explodes out of my
exhaust for just a millisecond. That was it....no fluxuations in RPM, no
hesitation, nothing except a gigantic clowd of worry coming out of my baby.
I immediately pulled over and shut down. I popped the hood and nothing
looked wrong. I reluctantly started her up and went home (.5 mile) with no
problems. Once there, I got out the trusty compression guage and went to
work. 220-222 for all cylinders and that is what it was like when I bought it
7 years ago.
After checking compression, I noticed something strange. There was oil
starting to come out of a small crack in the plastic hose connector between
the snorkel and the airbox. After investigating, I found lots of oil in my
recently cleaned K&N. From here I suspect my Crankcase Ventilation
(PCVvalve???) to be the problem but I don't understand why. I have
16vscirocco & 16vgti bently manuals and I can't find anything on the subject.
Does anyone know how these things work or if it is possible that mine is
wearing out under high pressures. Just for the record it is a 1.8 with 140k,
rebuilt head at 75k, my oil level is perfect, and I hit 6200rpm at the top of
second gear before shifting to third. HELP. I am hoping that this is not a
sign of something worse on the horizon. Then again, now sounds like a good
time to start my search for a good low mileage 2.0 shortblock. hee hee. Thanks
in advance for your help!!!!!!
