I guess that's part of it(wet).

but please don't tell me that the tire is fine but I can't drive...

I guess *you* need wider tires;). Trick is to keep the front right (that's
the one that goes first) from spinning wildly, also to keep the engine from
bogging. You have to slip the clutch a bit - if you just wind it up and
dump it, you'll spin or bog. Stay off paint stripes at intersections. I
won't tell you that you can't drive, but I will say that I can launch my
GTI on 155/80-13 snowtires. Certain Scirocco owners have seen this.

Different note - Kevin and I did a little dragrace a couple of days ago,
stopped on a wet road side by side. I did the countdown, which is bad -
see, in my head there's the ProSolo lights going "Yellow...yellow..(off the
clutch)..yellow...green. Get off the clutch at a Pro between the second
and third yellow, you'll only redlight once in a while:). Anyhow, I got
going too early, so I put the clutch in to equalize, he was spinning, I got
back off the clutch, the car hooked up and I got the lead easily. Not the
fairest of starts, but the tire mattered - I was on R1s, he was on A509s,
both the same width. (185, Kevin can launch his car on 185s too). My
rubber was a big advantage in the wet.

Anyhow. 185s launch OK, I can spin my 215/50-13 R1s if I screw up. Hope
this helps!
