Thanks for the tips Shawn, but I have taken my console apart more times
than I would like to remember (and it sounds like you have, too). At
least I hope somebody else in the list finds the instructions useful. (By
the way, I just got done removing and re-installing my dash, so if
anybody wants specific instructions --> email me; it is not as simple as
2 screws on each side, 2 in the glove compartment and one to the right of
the cluster. I believed the official VW manual which listed just those,
and then found out that there are more subtle things to be taken care of
first).

I was mostly concerned about how the radio will be 'encased' by the
plastic of the console. Will I have to buy a metal 'box' that will fit
into my console? Will the radio fit perfectly anyway? What if it squeaks
while rubbing against the console? I would never trust anyone to install
anything like a radio in my car. I am sure by the time they are done, the
console will have suffered quite a bit. So, I think I need to do a little
searching for this one.
