Is this a sign of bad alignment?

I still am not sure what the real signs of a misalligned car are. I always
thought that if the steering wheel, to go straight, needed to be held at an
angle then the alignment was bad. Is this right even if, when you let the
wheel go, the car goes straight? Is the alignment still bad? What else
would be causing this? My 16v I have never gotten a perfectly straight
alignment on but I think it needs some frame straightening because it was in
an accident. My 8v does the same but has never been in an accident. It
stays straight but the wheel is turned to the left. I haven.t noticed any
uneven treadwear either. I haven't looked lately though. can ya help?
