Hey, you wanna flame war, no! {;-)

Okay, YES the 8v IS probably quicker off the first line, this is 
because the 16v is tuned to procduce torque at BIG revs, whereas the 
standard 8v has more low-down grunt. You blaze him past about 5,000. 
However, by increasing the bore on the 8v you can get as much up the 
top end too... {-)

Secondly, slipping your clutch won't harm your tranny as much as 
snapping the clutch up will, but it will smoke your clutch, so the 
choice is yours.
