Yes all true, the 16valves come with starters that are more powerful
then the 8vs and therefore draw more amps ( and cost more money ). This
is needed to get over the higher compression ratios in those engines.
10:1 was the highest you could get in 88, next to a Porsche. The high
amperage meams that your battery has to be more powerful and they wer
from the factory, but as the battery gets old the effect of temperature
seems worse since the starter has such a low resistence to begin with,
this is why all the aftermarket batteries suck so much on this car.
20W50 makes things worse of course and you are supposed to run 10w40 in
the winter according to the manual.
