I have the occaisonal coolant odor when I accelerate with no leak in 
my 85 8V.  I've been trying to figure this out for a while.  I was 
thinking that perhaps the heater core was replaced before I got it 
due to leakage and they didn't clean the housing of old leaked 
coolant.  Just my guess, I intend to pull it out one day to check.
