The quick brake fade that comes with repeated braking is the only
performance
aspect of my '85 that I have ever found less than great; I have drums in
the back, of course. Has anyone put this newer 4-disc system on an older
 Scirocco? >>

Hi John, I know of alot of people that have changed the rear brakes on older
MK I and MK II Scirocco's. It requires changing the (as far as I know) master
cylinder and being sure there is a prop valve installed along with the
hareware ect....
One thing I have heard also is that by changing the rear brakes to disk, it
has no performance on our cars. (Im sure those of you will correct me if I am
wrong) I have the stock solid rotors up front and drums in the rear. (I run
in DSP and cant modify my brakes, or I would have larger front vented rotors)
I also use Ferodo pads and Castrol GTLMA fluid (Great all around combination
for street and track cars) and to be honest with you, I have yet to get brake
fade! I do some serious downhill high speed braking at times and I fully
expect them to fade out a little. Not yet. Maybe when the fluid gets a little
older it will happen.
Anyways, people I autox with run stock shoes on their rear drums (including
myself) with out any problems. Mainly since the rears do little in braking
HP. Most of the braking work is the front pads and rotors anyways. I think my
rear brakes only lock up when the inside rear wheel is off the ground in the
corners!
I think there are better mods you can perform for your money unless you just
love the way rear rotors look thru the wheels!! I know I do....
