Calling all NW listers

There is a little bit of slop between every gear tooth and it's mate, every engagement sleeve and it's mating gear. When you get to the line, holding the brake, just engage the clutch a little bit to get all the parts in contact and take out any clearance. This will reduce shock loads when you launch.
I'm not the expert here, but my understanding is that Kevin Black was religious about using this technique when racing his "Orange Crush" MK I Scirocco. He was pretty good at making 020's live when mated to a 400Hp turbo 16V and running 10 second 1/4's.
