A good weekend...(now with way too much Cathy blather)

Klaus is older than either of them red whipper snippers...and after
arriving home from that Muskoka wedding at 2:30am, we got into the
Sciroccos yesterday morning and headed for Sparta, the track "where grass
grows at the 1/8 mile". About a 100 mile trip. Well, they finally paved
over the grass, but it sure isn't a very flat strip.

Anyway, I had done a very rapid clearup from a pretty big electrical
teardown and got on the road to find that half of mission control wasn't
working, no tach, WB wasn't lit up, and no stereo!!! So it was good to be
able to stop and fix it all in short order, nothing like knowing your car
well I'd say. I also managed to hook up my new trunk light and got my one
guage working while I was at the track, there's so much dead time.

So I hadn't driven a Scirocco for about two weeks, and was I ever grinning!
I just totally love driving these cars. If you have one that's a project,
go drive someone's to get a fire lit under your ass, there's nothing as fun
really. Of course this trip had the added bonus of allowing me to see my
other Scirocco on the road, and that's also something that's pretty cool,
if you have a friend you trust, swap cars and just watch how amazing it is
to see that car you've been cursing at on the road. All busted knuckles
will soon be forgiven, they're just so pretty :)

But for the big news that nobody else cares about...the personal bests.
Klaus tied his personal best 1/4 mile time twice, I know, big deal. BUT it
IS...because I lost traction pretty badly on both runs, so that means he'd
have bettered that time if he'd have hooked up. I have got to get some
tires. H rated is good for "highway", but it could also stand for "hard".
I've never needed anything stickier before, and that's pretty exciting.
BUT!!! Not only did Dennis win his class (and beat out a longtime rival to
do it) but THAT car (my 16V) also cracked a very stubborn barrier and
turned in a 1.9s 60 ft time. The 2 second mark has been something we've
been trying to beat for YEARS, and it finally happend. He obviously could
hook up okay! He had a couple of 15.2 quarters, which is right where the
car should be on slicks. So needless to say we were glad we came home from
the wedding. People came over all day to ask about the cars, which doesn't
often happen at the local track, so that was pretty cool. Many were
surprised to see a normal looking CIS-E 16V in the silver car.
I also met a guy who's in the middle of a Scirocco turbo build, his firends
said he went totally apeshit when he saw our two cars go down the track,
the signs of a true addict I'd say!

Other coolness? AN 11 second GLH..can you say goes like hell? The owner was
really cool and told us a lot about the build, and it was a slick build
too. And our fastest local VW now has added weight, a parachute...which
means he's hoping to crack 150mph in the quarter mile. He ran 11 second
passes with some 2X4s and duct tape holding his cracked intercooler
together. (He's usually faster) Yikes!
Later then, I'm too tired to face the kiddies today, but I'll survive!
Cathy

Mark! When do you get that new one!!!!????? I'm so excited to see it.

Julie, the sanding, get to it, now!!! We need to go for a cruise....
