Scirocco Gross polluter

My HC was 115/46 (max 130/105) and CO was .60/.38 (max .80/.69) ... would getting an autotech fuel module help it not run lean? It would add a little more power too but, it might cause other issues and I don't really have the cash right now (although, I would like to add it eventually).

High NOx is usually a problem if you're running lean (and have high compression, as in a 16V) or at least that's my understanding. My 2L 16V often had both high HC and NOx, and a newer cat solved it nicely.

Sorry to return to the list after so long and be more of a lurker not poster but, my 88 16v arrived Friday from my home state of Pennsylvania and I finally got the paperwork today that would allow me to register it in California. I was very excited and took it to get smogged after work and then..... FAILIt says that NO was measured at 2380/1048 and max was supposed to be 835/774. They also claimed that the vaccum lines to some unnamed sensors were disconnected (possible) and the fuel evaporative control was modified (don't think I ever touched that). I do have a 1.8l to 2.0l conversion, cams and intake but, the car passed in Cali in 2000 with this set up. Does it sound like I can fix a few simple things or will this require me to sell the car out of state?-Mike_________________________________________________________________You keep typing, we keep giving.
