Source for brand new 2.0 16v?

I seem to recall getting a quote for one from the dealer back when my
keyway sheared and when I didn't even know how to remove the battery
myself(2001?). I think it was something insane like 10 grand. I may be
wrong on that amount, but it was rediculous money. But the point is: why
not get a block out to a reputable machine shop and get it rebuilt if
"newness" is important? For what a crate engine would cost (if you could
find one), you could probably buy a block from a yard and get it done right
up to the nines.
