Electrical problem

ok guys here is where I stand I did the tests:

removed excite wire and grounded it and no light.
connected 12v to excite terminal and still no charging voltage.
tested voltage at teh alternator and at the battery and voltage reading the
same.

So here is my diag:

Alternator is bad
bulb in instrument cluster is bad

here is what I have to do saturday:

remove alternator and take to autozone to get tested. if bad go to junk
yard and pull a alternator
find a 92 vw passat instrument cluster on vortex.
