pulled the hood latch and....nothing!

Wow, a tech question I can answer!

When it comes to Mk2s (dunno about Mk1s) you can easily take the grill out
by removing the two upper clips with a small prying device like a flat head
screwdriver and then pulling out the tabs that plus in on the bottom.

Once the grill is out you can almost always hand pull the drivers side
and/or passengers side levers by reaching in and pulling the release cable
by hand. I've never seen both be problems, it's always one or the other
being a problem.

Another method is just to use some large-ish needle nose pliers on the
release cable inside the car. Hold down the outer cable housing with one
hand and pull on the inner cable using the needle nose.

Good luck!

Subject: pulled the hood latch and....nothing!

So I was going to add some water(the heater valve is leaking slightly and
new one hasn't arrived yet) and when I pulled the hood latch-nothing. The
handle is totally loose. I am assuming it has snapped since it seems
unlikely that it became disconnected from both latches. So what is my way
in? Try to remove the grill carefully, and go in through there?
