Rear wheel bearing issues

63 quadrillion ton-feet. Nice. :) Yeah, I do what another has mentioned- I spin the wheel, (I keep the wheel bolted to the rotor/drum and pull them both off as an assembly) while tightening the nut until the wheel does not turn. Then I keep tightening until I cannot turn the wheel with my arm. (not both arms, just 'ol lefty while righty is tightening the nut) I back it off about 1/2 turn, then spin it again and slowly tighten it back up- for me, it's about as tight as I can get it by just turning the socket with my fingers. Usually it takes another 1/8th of a turn after that (give or take) with the wrench and it's good to go.

I remember once a newbie tech at VW installed the rear axle nut with an impact. :-0 Not sure how the dumbass didn't realize there was a problem but it somehow made it out of the shop, the lady picked it up and drove it about 1/8th of a mile before they both seized up tight.

I did put moderate pressure on them, but just with a 1/2" ratchet, not
my torque wrench. I was told I should "seat" them, but I didn't want to
put too much pressure on them. I'll pull 'em apart tomorrow and apply
known torque as suggested. The races were pressed in with a shop press,
using correct sized sockets as plungers. All 4 races are pressed in
tight and square, fully seated in the rotor.

Completely boggles my brain that the fronts need to be torqued to 63
quadrillion ton feet, and the rears are teeny tiny finger tight.

Thanks!
Nate
