New R32 vs. A3 S-line

<snip Dan>
It's the future! A computer can manage the clutch better and faster than
99.9% of the people including racing drivers.

(exiting lurk mode, maybe with a small rant...) You're right. It is the
future. It's also a shame. Just because a computer is more efficient, does
it make it a better? A computer can also pace better than 99.9% of people
(adaptive cruise control). A computer can also brake better than 99.9% of
people (Mercedes Active Brake Assist, ABS). Hell, a computer can also
parallel park better than 99.9% of people (Lexus LS 640 L). Put it all
together and you've got a very efficient vehicle. But driving is supposed
to be participatory, not passive. Drivers should be encouraged to increase
their skill level and become better drivers. Cars should not be dumbed down
so that people lacking the proper skill or attention span are merely
adequate on the road. I'm not saying that Dan or anyone on the list is one
of those people. It's just a shame to watch cars and trucks turn into
non-interactive appliances like toasters and refrigerators.

That's my opinion, for what it's worth. Sorry, if it's a rant. This just
touched a nerve. (returning to lurk mode...)
