Dont shoot me! How much oil to add?

If the thermoplate is like aftermarket ones it doesn't actually prevent oil from going through the cooler when the oil isn't hot.
Both the cooler bypass and flow through the cooler are open when oil temp is low, but the majority of the oil goes through the bypass cause there's less restriction. Once the oil gets up to temp the bypass is closed and all the oil goes through the cooler.

So, the bottom line is the cooler and lines will be purged of air while the oil is still cool and will happen pretty quickly. i.e. less than a minute of idling time. The oil pressure light will probably stay on for a while the first time you run the engine with the cooler.

All in all I doubt the cooler and lines hold over a quart, so if you just fill it the normal amount it isn't going to be dangerously low before you can bring the engine to temp and accurately measure oil level.
