Rear Shocks question

Yes, that's pretty much the only way to get the rusted bolt out.

I make 2 cuts on the bottom, so that I can lift the shock off.
Then I either burn the rubber off with a torch, before I make another 2 cuts
on the bolt, or cut through the rubber and bolt at the same time. The reason
2 cuts are necessary is that there's not enough room to wiggle the bolt out.
I make the cuts on the inside of the mounting tabs, one by the bolt head,
and the other one by the threads of the bolt.

Take great care not to cut into the mounting tabs on the rear trailing arm.
Sometimes the cut-off wheel will catch, so you might want to clamp on some
sheet metal with a C-clamp or ViseGrip, for protection.

Good luck with that, it's a real PIA!

Subject: Rear Shocks question

O.K.....so I got me some KYB Gas-A-just shocks for the rear and started on
the Passenger side. I was amazed at how easy it was to replace. I'd say it
took me 30-40 minutes to replace. I know that's probably slow.

Now I tackle the Driver side............4 hrs later and I still haven't
gotten the old sachs shock off. The issue I'm having is that I was able to
remove the nut, but the bolt won't budge..........any ideas???? I was
thinking about using a dremel and cut off wheels and cut the the bottom half
of the cylinder with the bolt thru it and then cut the bolt in half and
replace.

What have others done??

Karl
