Strut Time - suggestions? Koni vs Bilstien vs Bilstein



Honestly, I've had Bilstein Sports with Neuspeed Sport springs, and
although it did lower the car, I don't have any bottoming-out issues.  I
think they are a perfect compromise for someone who likes spirited
driving, but would like some reasonable amount of comfort for regular or
long distance driving.  I think it is the most excellent compromise.

However, I might just go Weitec or H&R Coilovers next time...

Yes, lowering springs will help, and the good news is that HD's work
fine
with 1.5" lowering springs.

Are you sure that Bilstein HD's will raise the front end that much? If
the
valving is really the same between the HD's and Sports, I'd be leaning
toward the HD's, but I'm not so sure I want to do that if it will raise
the
front of the car any more than it is now.

What I do know is the Bilsteins will raise the front of your car quite a
bit, probably about 1/2", due to the internal gas pressure and the shear
diameter of the shock rod on the front which is virtually the diameter

easily presumably tightening your car somewhat for autocrossing then
readjust for the drive home.
Also, again from what I've heard mostly on the Yahoo VW autocross group,
any

of these shocks can be rebuilt or valving changed for a reasonable cost
at
least in light of the cost of their original purchase.
