transmission reassembly!

Thanks I'll give that a try. Is there any reason I shouldn't use a spare 8v
5th gear case cap on a 16v tranny? I notice the inside of the case has a
bit of a different look to it but nothing that looks structural. My
original 16v 5th gear case has light surface cracks around the thrust
bearing area.
