oil pumps



I imagine with 6 psi the 16V clutch will be OK.
You can always upgrade to a higher friction clutch disc with the 16V PP 
although I don't know any brands right off the top of my head.

Swapping oil pumps is a one hour job. I'm sure the 30mm will give you 
adequate oil pressure. The 36mm with 20-50 oil might just blow your oil 
filter off the block!

1.6 crank is 80mm stroke with a 79.5mm bore. The 1.7 crank is 86.4 mm stroke 
with 79.5mm bore same stroke as the later 1.8 that had an 81mm bore.
The 1.7 IIRC came in the 81 through 84.5 Sciroccos. I'm sure Daun or some 
others can correct me here.
So, your mechanic is full of shit on that count! ;^)

I think I'm on the Jedi counsel right before they got their asses handed to 
them in some conflict or other, but thank you for the sentiment!
