1 step forward, 2 steps back

OK, figured it couldn't hurt to try starting the car, even with the bad
injector seat (I guess I will try the VW dealership, even though last time
they acted like they didn't know what a Scirocco was. I am too impatient to
wait for an ordered item).

So, put everything back together (vacuum hoses, fuel pump relay, injector,
etc). Tried to start, and now I have no fuel pump! OMG, can this get any
more depressing. No shake or shimmy, but I am certain that there was no
fuel pump noise. Checked connection of relay and it is seated. I think the
relay took a dump (it was kinda sad looking anyway). Funny other noise
though, I would call it "hampster on a wheel". So, how do I test relay?
The pump worked yesterday via the jumper wire. And, what about this noise?
I can't tell you where its coming from other than maybe in the vicinity of
the belts.

Man, will this car ever start?
