Let me first say that Ipod surgery is not for the faint of heart. I
don't recommend it if you are under warranty.
Mine has been subjected to 2.5 years of vibration in the 2-7 khz
range... 8-28 khz if you want to count individual cylinder firings.
I reseated all the connectors, thing works. I imagine though that the
hard drive is probably on it's last legs.
