Strut bearing replacement

Will the spring not push it upwards if that nut is released? In which case,
it's best to have the whole thing out of the car. One more thing, I had a
noise in the Cabby that sounded for all the world like a bad strut bearing
(rattle on hard load/unload). It was missing anti-rattle clips in the front
brakes.
