Gettin' Better...

As some of you know or may remember, I've been pulling my
hair out with the Sciroccos lately as, despite lots of TLC
for all, NONE were roadworthy.

Gino's newest (or re-occuring?) problem was tackled first,
he had an intermittent wiring issue causing a no-spark
situation. After tracing things out, I temporarily
bypassed the wiring from the hall sender to the coil /
ignition control module. So far it seems to be working, no
hiccups since.

Then on to the '86, which blew the seal at the oil cooler
three days after the extensive work I'd been doing to it
that included new engine mounts, cam, timing belt etc.
What I've finally determined is that the pressure relief
valve at the pump stuck. Rather than futzing with it, I
replaced the pump since it was only about $60 from
Potterman. Just finished the test drive and all seems well
- correct oil pressure is a good thing.

So that just leaves the 16v, and I'm not sure what that's
going to involve yet. I'm fearing a cracked wheel hub on
the driver's side... we'll see.

Thanks for listening to me ramble. I might just have a
drivable Scirocco at Cincy this year after all.
