axle replacement 86 jetta

I hate cars!
Ok the PS side was slow, but I'm stuck with the DS.  I can't get it clear 
the Transaxle Flange! everything is loose, but can't get it to push forward 
enough to swing free!!!

Does removing the Ball Joint give me any more room?  I was looking at it and 
trying to figure out how.  I need a 1/4-1/2" and it would just flop out.

Have the wheel turned all the way left.  Hub connection slides in and out, 
just can't get enough room to swing the inner out of the flange downward. 
Really starting to piss me off this little car is.  I'd rather be messing 
around with the rocco instead of jacking around with this Jetta.

Anybody got ideas?

Cathy on the gasser vs diesel mine are 100mm did you say his are also?  You 
can always do the backward lookup. 8-)  Go to parts4vw or autozone online 
and type the type vehicles in and see if the numbers come out the same.   It 
showed the passanger side of my 84 rocc the same as my 86 Jetta, but left 
sides were different. HTH
