I agree with Kirsten on this. It's, at a minimum, a good learning 
experience.
I've welded up some truly nasty things like this on old Porsche 911s. They 
rust worse than MK I's. So, this sort of thing is fixable.
Also, believe it or not, the stress on this area is way less than on the 
front lower A-arm mounting. If that was rusted, I'd seriously think about 
blowing it off, but this is nowhere near as bad.
Cut away enough material to get back to solid stuff and enough that will let 
you reconstruct the inner panels and work you way out.
You can have it done by the end of the weekend. ;^)
