NPR piece on new VW Fast commercials

The media critic (remember, that's his JOB) says, "Let me say upfront that, while as individuals I'm certain they are lovely people, men under the age of 25 comprise my least favorite advertising demographic. Marketing directed at this cohort tends to exhibit: an adversarial stance toward women; a thoughtless disregard for societal harmony; supremely awful taste in food and clothing; and general boneheadedness."

Well, duh, sounds like marketing has pretty much nailed that one!! :)

Reminds me of the huge flack GM caught with their "young-boy's-fantasy-Corvette" commercial.
What brainless twits some people are; thinking commercials will be construed as commands from heaven to act irresponsibly.
If that were true, you'd have to ban all broadcasts of motorsports.

Well, he's entitled to his opinion, the target market is, as he says,
pretty testosterone driven, you have to admit. When you envision the driver
of one, what do you see? Would you be surpised to see my 80 year old mom
drivng one? At this stage of life, the GF is usulaly the one putting the
brakes on the need to buy a fast car (she wants a house likely)
I really doubt this guy's opinion counts for a whole lot in the sales of
the car, or the use of the ad.

So what VW commercials are your favorites? I like the Golf dropping from
the apple tree, (they seem to like dropping Golfs, maybe they're good for
jumping?), and I DO like the "Pink Moon" cabby ad. As the "target market"
(40 something female) for the New Beetle, I have to say I liked a lot of
those ads, like the "Reverse engineered from spacecraft" one. And of
course, the classic "reading of the will" one, featurring a black air
  cooled beetle.
Anyway, that's it from here. I'm not finding the new stuff (that I could
afford) inspiring enough to change right now, I was telling Dennis that I'd
likely jus replace my 230 000 km seven year old daily with the same thing
at some point (even the colour and interior and engine), but with zero
miles and a warrantee. Maybe that means I'm driving the right car.
  Cathy
