Q: Rusty caliper carriers and POR-15

QUESTION: is it advisable to use POR-15 on old, rusty
(but wire-wheeled to the extent possible) caliper
carriers?

The carriers themselves (all new) will receive brake
caliper paint. But since the carriers are rusty, I'd
like to use the POR-15 as I think the brake caliper
paint would just bubble eventually on them.

Or would the carriers get heated up too much by brake
usage, since the carriers are a heatsink off the
calipers themselves?
