I sent this link to my English friend, this is what he sent back...

'Don't remember the rear styling..although it looks similar to a hatch 
back 1976 Passat.....Engine is the 924/Audi 90 and 100,  2.0 ltr 
motor...rear diff is partly 924.....interior is a 1970's Audi 100, as is 
the dash...early Passat ( European model.) hood and front drive train. 
Wheels are 928 Porsche...if not totally, then in style.
Seems to be a styling exercise from Audi for the 1000 Lakes rally's in 
the 70's. Don't forget...VW had a 4 wheel drive T2 that a lot of the 
running gear would come from, as Audi/VW was still a colaberation.

Obviously a ground up resto' though....never would have survived in that 
prisine state in Germany..'

The only thing I can argue with is the T2 4WD.  They had 2 of them, 
built purely as an excercise to see if it was viable.  They did not 
produce them, so, I can assume it was not...
