What does the interior of the Dist cap look like? 
Full of oil? Coated w/ gunk?

Hmmm, well, this might be _part_ of the trouble but
not in and of itself a casue for non-starting.

So, if you ground one of the spark plug wires while
someone turns the motor over what kind of spark does
the thing put out?

Fuel/Air/Spark. It's got to be one of those, either
too much or too little.
